ANSYS 3Q profit beats estimates

CANONSBURG – ANSYS Inc. on Thursday reported third-quarter profit of $69.6 million.

On a per-share basis, the Southpointe-based company said it had net income of 78 cents. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 95 cents per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 92 cents per share.

The maker of engineering-simulation software posted revenue of $245.9 million in the period, missing Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $249.3 million.

For the current quarter ending in December, ANSYS expects its per-share earnings to range from 94 cents to 99 cents. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had forecast adjusted earnings per share of $1.01.

The company said it expects revenue in the range of $263 million to $272 million for the fiscal fourth quarter.

ANSYS expects full-year earnings in the range of $3.59 to $3.64 per share, with revenue ranging from $981 million to $990 million.

The company’s shares have dropped 3 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has fallen 8 percent in the last 12 months.
