MAIDSVILLE, W.Va. – U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz is scheduled to visit a West Virginia coal-fired power plant Monday alongside Congressional leaders.

Longview Power said Moniz is expected to tour the plant near Morgantown, and U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin and Rep. David McKinley are slated to join.

Manchin said Moniz will see firsthand West Virginia’s ongoing work to develop clean coal technology. Manchin’s office said more details and events will be announced shortly.

President Barack Obama’s administration has faced scrutiny in Appalachia for policies that affect coal. In particular, the coalfields have opposed the Environmental Protection Agency’s limits on carbon pollution from coal-fired power plants. The regulations aim to combat climate change.
