TRPIL awarded certificate to train CNAs
Traditional Paths to Independent Living Thursday has received approval to conduct training for a Certified Nursing Assistant program.
The certificate of approval for the course was presented during a tour of TRPIL’s training center at 31 E. Chestnut St. by state Department of Labor & Industry Deputy Secretry for Workforce Development Eileen Cipriana and the state Department of Aging’s Quality and Compliance specialist Michelle GTlidden.
During a meeting with TRPIL Chief Executive officer Kathleen Kleinmann and employees of TRPIL’s Center for Independent Living, which is a licensed home care provider, personnel said the apprenticeship will offer the opportunity to train people to advance their skills.
“The CNA apprentices will gain invaluable hands-on training and the skills needed to provide quality community support services to consumers in a home care setting,” Kleinmann said. “This training will help our nurses to safely perform their job duties and provide people with disabilities with a vital service to help them transition from care facilities to living independently in their homes.”
The Wolf administration established the Apprenticeship and Training Office last year to support and expand apprenticeships. Programs registered through the office provide employer-driven training to create a more productive, diverse, highly skilled workforce for employers and to help reduce employee turnover. Since the office was created, 2,606 new apprentices and 77 new registered apprenticeship occupations statwide have been created.
“Direct care workers of any kind are the hands, the voice and the face of long-term care for many older Pennsylvanians and persons with disabilities who rely upon this workforce in order to live and age well in their homes and communities,” said Secretary of Aging Teresa Osborne. “The Wolf Administration is committed to supporting partnerships like this so that we can create opportunities for Pennsylvanians to receive the training and support needed to eithr further their career parth or reenter the workforce.”
