Comcast Xfinity wifi outdoor hotspots grow in local area
Comcast said Tuesday it has now activated 100 Xfinity wifi outdoor hotspots in Washington County, part of an ongoing expansion of a wifi network in its Keystone Region that includes more than 4,700 hotspots providing free access points for Comcast customers.
The largest wifi provider in the state, Comcast said it is expected to reach 5,200 hotspots by year’s end in the Keystone Region, which comprises western, central and northeastern Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, northern West Virginia and the Maryland panhandle.
These outdoor hotspots are located near shopping and dining destinations, government offices, auto repair businesses, hair salons and other venues throughout Washington County where customers go on a regular basis. Among the local hotspots are 10 near retail locations along East Maiden Street, including near the Habitat For Humanity ReStore, Krency’s and Washington Elks; along Jefferson Avenue at Brownson House; and along Highland Avenue at Family Dollar. In South Strabane Township, hotspots can be found at Northgate Plaza and Billy Bell Park.
There are 20 hotspots in Canonsburg and McMurray, including Canonsburg access points at Yoney Drive adjacent to Town Park and at the Borough offices along East Pike Street. Among the McMurray hotspots are 13 adjacent to Route 19 retail locations, including Donaldson’s Crossroads, McMurray Shops, Lakeside Plaza, the Rauch Building and the intersections with Valley Brook Road, Waterdam Plaza Drive, East McMurray Road and Center Church Road.
Customers will find 18 hotspots in Charleroi, the majority of those along McKean Avenue and Fallowfield Avenue, as well as 27 hotspots in Monongahela, including 10 along Main Street. Elsewhere in the county, there are seven hotspots in both Donora and New Eagle and two in Eighty Four.
Most Xfinity Internet customers can access Xfinity WiFi hotspots by selecting “xfinitywifi” from the list of available networks on their laptops or mobile devices and entering their Comcast username and password. The Xfinity WiFi App, available for download on both iOS and Android devices, makes it easy to locate business and outdoor hotspots, or customers can visit the hotspot finder map online at www.xfinity.com/wifi.
After signing in for the first time, customers will automatically connect to any Xfinity WiFi hotspot in the future, allowing them to save on wireless data plans and easily take advantage of access points available across the country, including popular vacation destinations along the East Coast.
