Gasoline prices continued to rise in Western Pennsylvania this week, going up by almost a nickel, according to a report released Friday by AAA East Central.

A gallon of unleaded self-serve gasoline costs an average $2.97.3, up 4.5 cents from $2.92.8 last week. This week’s pump price is 26.2 cents higher than it was the week of April 24, 2017, when a gallon of petrol went for $2.71.1.

The price, statewide, is $2.97, and may soon become the only state in the Mid-Atlantic region to hit $3. Most of the region’s other states are 11 cents or more cheaper than Pennsylvania.

Gas prices in Washington rose another 7.3 cents this week to $2.97.2. Although, in recent months, prices there have been among the three or four lowest of 22 Western Pennsylvania cities and towns listed by AAA, Washington now ranks eighth.

Sharon ($2.84.1) and Uniontown ($2.89.3), once more, had the two lowest prices, and Warren ($3.02.5) and had the highest.

The nationwide average went up another nickel to $2.76 – 17 cents higher than it was a month ago and 34 cents more than this time last year.
