Roller-coaster gas prices decline in city, region
Following a three-cent increase the week before, gasoline prices dropped 2.5 cents per gallon in Western Pennsylvania this week. The average price of a gallon of unleaded self-serve is $3.111, according to a report from AAA East Central.
That figure is 37.5 cents higher than it was a year ago, at $2.736.
Washington’s price similarly dipped 2.4 cents, from $3.103 to $3.079. The price here 0.8 cents cheaper then the regional average.
The average price also is two cents lower in Pennsylvania ($3.06) and nationwide ($2.89). Prices across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast region declined as well.
The Mid-Atlantic and Northeast region’s gasoline inventories increased by 1.4 million barrels to 70.6 million, the highest level in nearly two years, according to the Energy Information Administration. That could mean lower or stable prices.Washington’s price is the sixth-lowest average among 22 Western Pennsylvania cities and towns listed by AAA. Uniontown ($3.107) is 12th.
New Castle ($3.013) has the lowest average. Brookville ($3.237) has the highest.
