Washington County Bar Association awards scholarships

Two local law school students have been awarded $1,000 scholarships by the Washington County Bar Foundation.

Brouklin Alger of Peters Township and Timothy C. Lesso of Canonsburg were selected by their respective universities. Alger attends the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, Lesso, the Duquesne University School of Law.

Alger, according to a news release from the bar association, “anticipates receiving her Juris Doctorate degree in May 2026.” At Pitt, she is involved in the Sports and Entertainment Law Society, Intellectual Property Law Society and the Pitt Law Women’s Association.

Alger earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Pennsylvania State University, where she majored in Telecommunications and Media Industries. She has accepted a summer internship with Judge Nora Barry Fischer, a senior federal judge in the Western District of Pennsylvania.

Lesso anticipates getting his Juris Doctorate in May. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Robert Morris University, with a concentration in Marketing and Accounting. He is a Legal Intern at Crown Castle in Southpointe and has been a part of its Accounts Payable Team since 2019. He also is a Faculty Research Assistant through the University of Cologne in Germany, where he was a Summer Exchange Law Student in 2023.

The Washington County Bar Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that has been awarding scholarships since 1998.

Waynesburg U.

RegisteredNursing.org has recognized the RN to BSN program at Waynesburg University as the No. 1 program of its kind in Pennsylvania.

Waynesburg, according to RegisteredNursing.org, said the university … “offers a top-tier online RN-to-BSN program. Tailored for working nurses, the program combines flexibility with academic rigor, preparing students for leadership roles in nursing. Waynesburg’s fully online RN to BSN Program is designed to meet the needs of working registered nurses, allowing students to balance work, family and school-related responsibilities. Students can transfer 85 credits from their associate degree or diploma credentials and a current RN license.

84 Lumber

84 Lumber Co. held its annual awards banquet March 16 at Nemacolin Woodlands, where the company honored various associates for outstanding performance in 2023.

Dan Jones was named Manager of the Year; Dave Fisher, Area Manager of the Year; Brennen Byers, Manufacturing Manager of the Year; and Andrew Boyd, Rookie of the Year.

Maggie Hardy, 84 Lumber’s owner and CEO, said during the ceremony: “Each year, I excitedly anticipate recognizing the associates who surpass expectations, contributing to the thriving success of our company. Their remarkable dedication has been instrumental in our journey thus far, and I feel privileged to work with such motivated and talented individuals.”

Jones has worked for 84 Lumber for more than 34 years and has earned this accolade many times.

Fisher has been with 84 Lumber for nearly 39 years. He started his career as a manager trainee and has been an Area Manager for the past 14 years.

Byers joined the company more than eight years ago, starting as a manager trainee at the Georgetown, Ky., location. He is Manager of the Dallas Door Shop, one of the most lucrative manufacturing facilities in the company.

Boyd started in field operations and traveled to many stores across the country, where he learned how to improve operations and sales management in various markets. He has since been promoted to operations manager at one of the company’s largest stores, which generates over $200 million in sales a year.

The North Strabane-based company is the nation’s largest privately held building materials supplier.

84 Lumber has been recognized on Newsweek’s Most Trustworthy Companies in America 2024 list.

The company is among 700 companies awarded the distinction after a thorough survey and review, according to a press release. The award is presented by both Newsweek and Statista Inc., a statistics portal and industry ranking provider.
