Presbyterian Seniorcare receives recognition at state level
A longtime Presbyterian SeniorCare Network leader and a new affordable senior housing community have received state-level recognition from LeadingAge PA.
At a recent LeadingAge PA state conference, Presbyterian SeniorCare Network received two honors.
The Paul P. Haas Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Jim Pieffer, President and CEO of Presbyterian SeniorCare Network, who has served seniors for 40-plus years.
Pieffer began working at Presbyterian SeniorCare in 1985, and under his leadership, the network has grown to cover a broader service area in western Pennsylvania through new affiliations, collaborations, senior housing developments, and programs.
The Innovation of the Year Award recognized Mosaic Apartments, located along Forbes Avenue in Oakland. The facility is the first LGBTQ+ friendly, low-income senior housing community in Western Pennsylvania and only the second in the state. The five-story building offers 48 one- and two-bedroom apartments, community gathering spaces, and amenities such as a pet spa, covered parking, and easy access to public transit. Groundbreaking for Mosaic Apartments was held in May 2024, and the community was opened in November 2025. The $28.5 million development was made possible through strong public and private collaboration, and is open to all income-eligible seniors.
“Each year, LeadingAge PA is proud to present Distinguished Service Awards to the best of aging services — those individuals and organizations that go above and beyond in pursuit of their missions to serve older adults with compassion and innovation,” said LeadingAge PA President and CEO Garry Pezzano. “Presbyterian SeniorCare Network is ahead of the curve in innovation and service to marginalized communities under the exceptional leadership of Jim Pieffer, who has dedicated his career to making Pennsylvania a better place to grow old, and couldn’t be more deserving of our highest recognition, the 2026 Paul P. Haas Lifetime Achievement Award.”
The awards were given at a statewide annual conference on May 12. Only eight awards were given across Pennsylvania this year.
