Gordon keeps W&J unbeaten in conference

PITTSBURGH – Washington High School graduate Mya Gordon scored 19 points and had 13 rebounds, including five at the offensive end, as Washington & Jefferson remained unbeaten in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference with an 82-74 win at Chatham Saturday in a women’s basketball game.

Taylor Cortazzo and Amirah Moore added 17 points each, while Moore also had 12 rebounds and seven assists as the Presidents (6-0, 9-5) pulled away in the fourth quarter, breaking open a game that was tied, 57-57.

Dani Medovich had 15 points and Charleroi graduate Mia Woytovich had 12 as the Presidents got all but two points in the game out of their starting lineup.

Ashley McClain kept Chatham (2-4, 7-5) in the game with 23 points, including hitting five three-pointers, while Katelyn Sieg had 17 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in the losing effort.

Waynesburg 74, Westminster 64: Chartiers-Houston graduate Addy Knetzer scored 17 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as Waynesburg held off Westminster, 74-64, in a PAC game.

Monica Starre also had a double-double for the Yellow Jackets (4-2, 8-5) scoring 13 points and snaring 11 rebounds as Waynesburg held a 48-27 edge on the glass, including a commanding 19-5 edge in offensive rebounds.

Katie Gehlmann chipped in 11 points for Waynesburg.

Rachel Durbin scored 14 points and Jackie Mathews and Paige Quinn had 10 each for Westminster (0-6, 5-8).

Westminster 58, Waynesburg 52: Jarrel Vrabel had 14 points and nine rebounds as Westminster held off Waynesburg, 58-52, in a men’s Presidents’ Athletic Conference basketball game.

Both teams shot poorly after a first half in which Westminster led, 35-32. Waynesburg (2-4, 4-9) made just 7 of 24 field goals in the second half, while the Titans (5-1, 9-4) were 8-29.

Deontay Scott added 10 points and 12 rebounds, while Cameron Kane-Johnson had 12 points off the bench for Westminster.

Timmy Kaiser led Waynesburg with nine points.

Chatham 77, Washington & Jefferson 69: Josh Randall came off the bench to score 23 points as Chatham defeated Washington & Jefferson, 77-69, in a PAC game.

Logan Hunter had 12 points and 12 rebounds for Chatham (2-4, 6-7), which also got 12 points out of Isaiah Brown.

Brian Graytok scored 20 points, Sean Stinelli 16 and Mike Zappala 10 for W&J (0-6, 0-13). Stinelli also had nine rebounds.
