Chiming in with R.T. Bell
Canonsburg Council reorganized on Jan. 8, and Mayor David Rhome, Councilman John Severine (first ward) and I (councilman at large) were sworn in after winning re-election. Our newest councilman, Eric Chandler (third ward) was also sworn into office.
I was re-elected as council president, while Joe McGarry was elected vice president and Fran Coleman was named president pro-tem.
At the regular monthly meeting Jan. 15, councilmen were appointed to the following committees:
R. T Bell, facilities and properties; Joe McGarry, public works; Fran Coleman, administration and finance; Harold Bowman, public safety; Tina Bails, parks and recreation; John Severine, code enforcement and Eric Chandler, redevelopment.
Council is looking forward to working together and representing the residents of our community. Our primary goal is working with utility companies to replace water lines, sewers and gas lines, a project that began late last year and should conclude early this year. Repaving of streets, and the addition of some new sidewalks is part of this project. We realize it is an inconvenience to the motoring public but the end results should be worth it.
We are also continuing to upgrade the senior center. Roof replacement will be done when the weather breaks and we applied for and received a Local Share grant for $44,000 to complete needed electrical work on the building.
See you next issue.
