Story Time, Monday-Thursday

Spanish Story Time, 11:15 a.m. Tuesdays

Preschool children can join Ms. Noreen for story time favorites – stories and songs – in Spanish. Children will also have fun learning common Spanish words. Email questions to Ms. Noreen at npoploski@franksarrislibrary.org.

Family Night, 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays

Come join the fun at the all-ages evening story hour with stories, games and activities to share. Please check the website’s event calendar for weekly themes.

Little Picassos, 10:15 a.m. Wednesdays

Children ages 2-5 years old, along with their fun loving adult, can join Ms. Barb at the library to do a craft with messy things like glitter, glue, water, paints, etc. Dress appropriately.

Table Top Gaming, 3-6 p.m.

Wednesdays

More than 20 games to choose from, including classics such as Monopoly, Scrabble and Catan, along with popular newcomers like Pandemic, Small World and Betrayal at House on the Hill. If you can’t make this organized playing time, feel free to stop by anytime to play.

Lego Club, 5-6 p.m. Wednesdays

Children in grades K-8 collaborate with other Master Builders on their own designs or special building challenges.

Wiggles and Giggles, 11:15 a.m.

Thursdays

This is a motion class for 2-5 year olds. Moving and dancing for 35-40 minutes, so no sitting! Email questions to Ms. Barb at bsomma@franksarrislibrary.org.

Of Dice and Men – Roleplaying Games, 1 p.m. Saturdays

Weekly, tabletop, roleplaying gaming sessions; a variety of games, most notably Dungeons & Dragons and Call of Cthulhu. For teens and adults; newcomers should come an hour early to set up characters for play.

Computer Instruction

How do I set up an email account? How do I perform a search on the internet? How do I connect with friends and family on Facebook? How do I download an eBook? If these questions sound familiar or you’ve had similar questions, let us help you get started. Designated library staff will provide one-on-one computer help by appointment only. We will have a computer available for the appointment, but you are welcome to bring your own laptop or device. Call the library at 724-745-1308 for more information or to sign up for an appointment.

Page Turners Book Club

(High School Students)

Family Escape Room Adventure, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

The library is bringing an escape room-like experience to Canonsburg. Adventurers will have the opportunity to crack codes, discover clues and solve puzzles with family and friends during a 45 minute session. This day’s adventure is geared towards families with elementary aged students. Check the event calendar on our website for more information, or call the library to register for your time slot; space is limited.

An author talk with Christopher George, author of “Day-by-day with the 123d Pennsylvania Volunteers: A Nine-month Civil War Regiment from Allegheny County.” The program is free but registration is required. Stop by the Circulation Desk or call 724-745-1308 to register.

Gently Used Books for Sale

The used book sale is ongoing and new titles are being added all the time. Replenish your bookshelves for just $5 per bag or buy individual books for $0.25, $0.50 or $1.00.

Playaway Launchpad Collection

Playaway Launchpad is a pre-loaded tablet designed for a circulation environment. We have Launchpads for children, teens and adults. The Launchpads for children are pre-loaded with high-quality learning apps and are available in many subjects. The teen and adult Launchpads include some instructional apps, brain games and trivia.

Borrow eBooks, audiobooks and Read-Along eBooks anytime, anywhere with your library card. Use your smartphone, tablet or computer to enjoy one of the 1,700+ titles in the WAGGIN collection!

Young Explorer Kits

Thanks to the Grable Foundation’s funding of the Young Library Explorers program, we now have a total of 69 kits for infants, toddlers and elementary school age (through fourth grade) children. Samples of our themes include: shapes, STEM, measurement and dinosaurs. These themed kits are filled with age-appropriate educational toys and other materials, and they are available to borrow. Stop by the Adult Circulation desk to borrow a kit.

New at the Library

RBDigital

Borrow eBooks, audiobooks and magazines at home, in the library or on the go with your library card. Many titles are multi-access, so multiple users can check out titles at the same time, eliminating holds and wait times. RBDigital is compatible with all popular listening devices, and mobile apps are available for iOS, Android, and Kindle Fire devices.

PA DMV Practice Tests

Through the library’s website, visitors can access free tests specifically based on Pennsylvania’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) materials. This website includes multiple car, motorcycle and CDL practice tests, online driver’s manuals and a FAQ section with detailed answers to more than 100 DMV related questions.
