This year more than others, it has really been a long winter. Spring has finally arrived and it’s time to shed those winter blues and enjoy the warmer weather.

The school year has ended, so please watch for children in your neighborhood, especially while driving. Look out for one another and offer a helping hand when needed.

Please take an interest in the many things that are happening here in the borough and don’t be afraid to get involved. Many people are quick to criticize without offering themselves for the challenge! There are many projects to choose from, and with your involvement, you can make a difference in the community.

There are so many good things happening in the borough. Let me just highlight a few:

We have begun a Community Development Program comprised of several businesses, people and elected officials working together to move Canonsburg forward. I have been told time and time again by many that they would like to have the opportunity to locate their business in Washington County. The opportunity is here in Canonsburg and the time is now. Should you want to be a partner in making this happen, please contact myself or any member of borough council. Working together, we can accomplish great things!

We continue to embrace our recycling programs with our upcoming paper recycling project. Glass continues to be recycled monthly with your household trash and electronic products may be recycled at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Please look for upcoming information on these programs on both the borough and Washington County websites.

All-Clad Metalcrafters is once again sponsoring a Beautification Project on Pike Street in Canonsburg. They will come into town, bring a large crew, and begin cleaning and planting flowers on Pike Street to make downtown look even more welcoming.

In my effort, and the effort of others working hard to keep Canonsburg a safe place to work and play, I will never waiver the safety of our wonderful community. With that in mind, I would like to remind everyone that our police department takes every lead seriously, and the men and women of the department follow it to the end.

It is because of these leads that early intervention is achieved, and we can put a stop to many illegal activities in our town. We continue to have an open door policy and all leads are kept confidential, only to be used within our department. If you see any suspicious activity or have concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact my office or the police department.
