Sept. 11 memorial services
The annual 9-11 Memorial Service in Eldersville will be held at 3 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Veterans Memorial site on Cedar Grove Road.
The service will honor those who lost their lives, and will be dedicated to all working dogs of 9-11.
The Weirton Police Department K-9 unit will put on a demonstration, and the Allegheny Mountain Search and Rescue Group will bring 10 of their dogs. Animal Friends Therapets also will attend.
Red Cross volunteer Pauline Amaismeier and state Sen. Camera Bartolotta, R-Carroll Township, will speak, and bagpiper Colin Searfoss Smith will play.
Refreshements will be served afterward at Jefferson Township fire hall.

Monessen City Park Amphitheater Committee is planning to host a regional 9-11 Memorial Event at 2 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Monessen City Park Amphitheater.
The event is designed to remember first responders and individuals who lost their lives in the 2001 attack and everyone who was affected, and say “thank you” to local veterans, law enforcement, fire, ambulance and others who serve the public.
There will be a formal service consisting of musical selections, readings and remarks from local government officials. The committee welcomes any local service organizations, churches, fire departments, law enforcement, EMS, government officials and individuals to participate in the ceremony.
After the ceremony, the Mon Valley Community Band will perform.
The committee also is looking for donations and sponsors to host a community picnic in the park after the ceremony.
