Don’t sweat the small stuff

Have you ever had one of those mornings? You know the ones when your alarm didn’t go off, or maybe it did go off, but you didn’t need to get up after all?

If you’re in a hurry, trying to move faster sometimes makes things worse. You try to hurry pouring coffee but instead end up spilling it all over the counter.

There’s an old saying: “Don’t sweat the small stuff, and it’s all small stuff.” I completely agree, but sometimes it’s the small stuff that’s really annoying. Let’s start a list, shall we?

– Paper cuts. Is there anything else that’s so tiny yet hurts so much?

– Hang nails. These are a close second and take so long to heal because you keep bumping them all day long.

– People blowing past you on the highway at 100 mph. Those loud motorcycles screaming up beside you unexpectedly are especially scary and annoying.

– The driver beside you in traffic blasting music at the top of the decibel level. Why do they think we all want to hear their music?

– Spam phone calls. These are made even worse if the person on the other end is rude if you do happen to answer by accident.

– Spam text messages. I can’t believe the amount of time I wasted this past election year blocking these from unknown numbers and junk accounts.

– Haters and generally negative people on social media. It actually feels good to block them from your account.

– When you’re running late and traffic in front of you is moving extra slow or you run into road construction.

– When you duck into a store for a quick errand and wind up waiting in line behind 10 people who need a price check. Never fails.

– When you recommend a restaurant or take someone with you to your favorite place and their food somehow winds up not being good.

– When you burn the roof of your mouth on hot pizza because it looks too delicious to wait for the cheese to cool.

– When you order French fries, and they arrive cold and soggy instead of hot and crispy.

I’m an eternal optimist, so while those little negative annoyances hopefully gave you a chuckle, why don’t we focus on some little but simple pleasures:

– The perfect pump at the gas station that ends in .00 for price.

– Hitting “end” on the microwave just before the timer dings. It makes me feel like Tom Cruise in “Mission Impossible” dismantling a bomb just in the nick of time.

– Getting every green light while driving down a long stretch of traffic lights.

– Hearing your favorite old song on the radio while driving.

– When you bake or cook something and it comes out perfect.

– You see something at a store you’d love to buy and it’s on clearance.

Remember, don’t sweat the small stuff, and it’s all small stuff!
