Candlelight carol service at First Presbyterian
The choirs of First Presbyterian Church of Washington, 100 E. Wheeling St., will present an Olde-Fashioned Christmas candlelight carol service at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
The service, which will be similar to the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols originally presented on Christmas Eve at King’s College, will feature the readings of the nine lessons by members of the congregation and the choirs. The choirs will be dressed in 19th-century clothing, continuing a long-standing tradition for the church’s candlelight carol service.
Special anthems will be performed by the choirs following each reading, featuring music composed by Archer, Bratt, Halls, Nixon, Ord, Poulenc and Terry. The congregation will participate in the singing of traditional carols.
As has been a tradition, the service is open to the community and members of all churches in the Greater Washington area.
Following the service, the annual Christmas tea will be held in fellowship hall.
