Habitat’s ReStore marks Earth Day
Washington County Habitat for Humanity is hosting a Donor and Customer Appreciation Day at its ReStore today in conjunction with Earth Day.
The store resells donated building materials, furniture, cabinets and appliances at its location on East Maiden Street in Washington. The store’s focus is to reuse, repurpose and recycle materials while helping to end the cycle of poverty.
“We estimate that for each dollar spent at the ReStore, 1.3 pounds of materials are kept out of local landfills,” said Tony Gacek, executive director of Habitat. “By this estimate, our ReStore has diverted more than one million pounds of reusable products since its start in 2006.”
Revenue generated at the ReStore helps to fund operations, overhead and the cost of new building materials for Habitat for Humanity.
The store will be open today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and light refreshments will be served.
