Spaghetti fundraiser benefits 8-year-old
Washington Ambulance and Chair and Richeyville Volunteer Fire Company will hold a spaghetti fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Richeyville Fire Company social hall.
Proceeds will benefit the family 8-year-old Kieran Stenson, a second-grader at Bethlehem-Center Elementary School who began his first round of chemotherapy for a cancerous brain tumor on New Year’s Eve at Children’s Hospital. His father, Ed Stenson, is a paramedic with ambulance and chair and a firefighter at Richeyville VFC.
Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children and includes an all-you-can-eat buffet. Soda will be sold for 50 cents. Takeout will be available.
In addition to the spaghetti dinner, firefighters and ambulance and chair employees are selling $10 tickets for a chance to win $6,500. The winning ticket will play off the daily number of the Feb. 10 Pennsylvania Lottery.

Peters Township High School’s National Honor Society will hold its ninth annual Dodgeball Tournament from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the high school gym.
Proceeds will benefit the Make-A-Wish Scholarship Fund.
Each school in the district will organize a faculty team.
Admission is $5.
Hot dogs, walking tacos, nachos, pop, candy and baked goods will be sold.
Young performers will vie for cash and other prizes Jan. 26 in “Washington’s Got Talent,” a fundraiser for Washington Hospital’s Teen Outreach.
Nine auditions were held throughout Washington County in December and January. Fourteen finalists will perform at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 26 at Trinity High School. There will be four celebrity judges, including “American Idol” finalist Adam Brock. An audience vote will help determine “fan favorite.”
The first-place winner will receive $1,000. The second-place finisher and the fan favorite each will receive $500. The top two winners will perform at the Washington County Fair and the first-place winner will perform at the Washington Women’s Network event in April.
Entertainment also will be provided by local area dance schools.
Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Doors open at 5 p.m. Food will be available.

Trax Farms, Route 88 in Finleyville, will host its first Winter Wine Festival from noon to 5 p.m. Feb. 23.
Trax previously has offered wine tastings and lectures, but the festival will be bigger than anything the farm has done before. The following wineries will be featured: Arrowhead Wine Cellars, Ripepi Winery & Vineyard, Greenhouse Winery, Glades Pike Winery, Raspberry Acres, J & D Cellars and Kavic Winery.

Panelists from the U.S. Army War College Eisenhower Series College Program, in collaboration with the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh, will speak at 7 p.m. Feb. 12 at Peters Township Public Library.
The Eisenhower program encourages dialogue on national security and other public policy issues between students of the Army’s senior educational institution and the public.

Old Economy Village in Ambridge is seeking individuals interested in becoming volunteer tour guides at the National Historic Landmark.
Those who are interested are asked to attend one of the following training meetings: 10 a.m. Jan. 26 or 10 a.m. Jan. 30. The meetings will begin with an introduction to the site, including an orientation video, and a guided tour of the site.
Old Economy Village was built by the Harmonists, a German religious communal society, in 1824 and served as their third and final home, until the society was dissolved in 1905. The group was noted for its success in textile manufacturing, craftsmanship, agriculture and investments in coal, timber, oil and railroads. The site has 17 buildings furnished with thousands of objects purchased or made by the Harmony Society, as well as historic gardens.

Beth Israel congregation is taking orders for hamentaschen.
Cost is $9 per dozen. Apricot, chocolate, poppy seed, cherry, lemon, prune or assorted are available. Deadline to order is Feb. 1. Mail checks to: Beth Israel Congregation, 265 North Ave., Washington, PA 15301.

Ukrainian Pysanky egg-decorating class will be held from noon to 4 p.m. March 9 at the Peters Township Community Recreation Center.
Capt. Michael Yanchak of the Peters Township Police Department will conduct the class.
Cost is $15 for residents and $23 for nonresidents. Participants must bring two or three raw, room-temperature eggs and two very sharp No. 2 or finer pencils. Registration deadline is Feb. 15.
