WCCF Scholarship winners

The Washington County Community Foundation has completed its endowed scholarship cycle for 2013, awarding 59 scholarships totaling $73,050. Winners were:

• Alice Boone Main Memorial Fun, $500 – Alex Pochiba of McGuffey High School. Pochiba plans to attend Point Park University to major in forensic science or intelligence and security.

• Arthur V. Ciervo Scholarship Fund, $500 – Leah Seader of Bethlehem-Center. She plans to attend California University of Pennsylvania to study mathematics and engineering.

• Barry Clark Barto Scholarship Fund, $500 – Spencer Lounder of Burgettstown, who plans to attend Pittsburgh Technical Institute to study welding technology.

• Black Family Scholarship Fund, $1,000 each – Jessica Black of West Greene, who plans to major in nursing at Waynesburg University, and Ellen Baillie, a graduate of PA Cyber Charter School who resides in the Avella School District. She plans to major in zoo animal science at Delaware Valley College.

• Buckholt Science Scholarship Fund, $500 – Drevin Galentine of McGuffey, who plans to major in mechanical engineering at Carnegie Mellon University.

• Burgettstown Junior-Senior High School Student Council Leadership Scholarship Fund, $500 – Graham Lescallette, who plans to attend Ohio State University and major in pre-law.

• Burgettstown Lions Club Scholarship Fund – Three Burgettstown seniors received scholarships. Awards of $250 each were presented to Lucas Bennett, who plans to study physical therapy at the University of Pittsburgh, and Michaela Gerace, who will study biology at Mercyhurst University. The $500 Lions Memorial Award was presented to Tanner Schultz, who will attend Robert Morris University to study computer information systems.

• CAS/Dr. Kim Stacher Scholarship Fund, $1,000 – Anthony Walker of Carmichaels, who plans to study mechanical engineering at the University of California at Riverside.

• Chapman Family Scholarship Fund – Receiving $2,000 awards were Paul Anderson of Trinity, who will attend the Art Institute to study photography; Shayla Crews of Ringgold, who will attend the Pittsburgh Technical Institute to major in accounting; Charles Kief of Chartiers-Houston, who will attend the Art Institute to study game design; Spencer Lounder of Burgettstown, who will study welding technology at the Pittsburgh Technical Institute; Mindy Post of Avella, who plans to study medical office administration at Penn Commercial; Shannon Snyder of Waynesburg Central, who will study medical office administration at Penn Commercial; and Rylee Walker of McGuffey, who will attend Penn Commercial to study medical office administration. Receiving $4,000 awards were Sarah Ferrier of Mapletown, who will study biology at Bethany College, and Aidan Walsh of Burgettstown, who plans to major in business at the University of Pittsburgh.

• Charles Pappas Sr. Scholarship Fund, $1,500 – Nicole Stewart of Burgettstown, who plans to study nursing at Duquesne University.

• Clyde J. Tracanna/Washington Rotary Club Educational and Vocational Fund, $1,000 each – Robin Crowley of Trinity, who will attend Marietta College to study biology; Kelly McCosby of McGuffey, who will attend Grove City College to major in exercise science; and Samuel Wicker of Washington, who will attend Dickinson College to major in education.

• Curtis Wachter Scholarship Fund, $500 – Paul Anderson of Trinity, who will attend the Art Institute of Pittsburgh to study photography.

• D. Jack & Geraldine L. Gaido Memorial Scholarship Fund, $4,000 – Lauren Simpson of Trinity, who will study sports management at Bethany College.

• Dave Pew Memorial Scholarship Fund, $500 – Tiffany Trunk of Peters Township, who will attend the College of Wooster to study music therapy.

• David O. and Sara F. Johnson Family Education Fund, $1,000 – Meghan Burgdolt of McGuffey, who will major in biology/physical therapy at Penn State University.

• Dr. Paul Pipik Fund for Study in the Health Sciences, $850 – Donna Kim of Bethlehem-Center, who plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh to major in pharmacy.

• Elizabeth Plumer Memorial Scholarship, $1,000 – Brianna Thomas of Trinity, who will attend Ohio Valley University and study nursing.

• John & Sophie Choratch Scholarship Fund – The following students each received an award of $1,500: Jon Demi of McGuffey, who will attend Ohio State University to study biology; Karlea Holub of Bentworth, who will attend the Bradford School to study medical assistant management; Robert Kemp of Peters Township, who will attend Edinboro University to study graphic design; Tyler Maltony of Lincoln Park Charter School, who will attend Community College of Beaver County and is pursuing acceptance into the police academy; Shayne McCann of Charleroi, who will attend the University of Pittsburgh to study mechanical engineering; Bradley Roberts of Burgettstown, who will attend Community College of Allegheny County to pursue a career as a utility lineman; Sadie Szuminsky of Bentworth, who will attend Waynesburg University to major in biology; Jeffrey Toth of Ringgold, who will attend California University of Pennsylvania to study secondary math and science; and Ian Whiten of Charleroi, who will attend the University of Pittsburgh to study mechanical engineering.

• Joseph P. Femiani Memorial Scholarship , $1,000 – Alexandra Harmon of Peters Township, who plans to attend Ohio State University to major in marketing.

• Kerns Family Scholarship Fund, $1,000 – Lena Bioni of McGuffey, who plans to study agricultural and extension education at Penn State University.

• Kirk C. Moninger Fund, $200 – Cameron Jackson of Trinity, who plans to attend Robert Morris University.

• Kiwanis Club of Washington Scholarship Fund, $500 – Mindy Post of Avella, who who plans to attend Penn Commercial to study medical office administration.

• Linda LeFever Scholarship Fund, $1,000 – Alice Mc- Kenney, a student of the Heinz School of Carnegie Mellon University.

• Margaret Pitek Ciervo Scholarship Fund, $500 – Donna Kim of Bethlehem-Center, who will attend the University of Pittsburgh to study pharmacy.

• Megan J. Phillis Scholarship Fund for Academic Excellence, $500 – Nico Marcucci of Burgettstown, who will attend West Virginia University to study computer engineering.

• Olivia Scott Scholarship Fund, $1,000 each – Erik Capra of McGuffey, who will attend Kent State University to major in architecture, and Erin Ritzer of Bentworth, who will study engineering at Robert Morris University.

• Rebecca Sarah Rogers Scholarship Fund, $1,000 – Victoria Smith of Washington, who will attend California University of Pennsylvania to study secondary Spanish education.

• Ringgold Alumni Scholarship Fund, $250 – Amanda Bero, who plans to study biology and chemistry at Westminster College.

• Ronald T. Miller, II Scholarship Fund, $1,000 – Madeleine Lepore, who will attend the University of Pittsburgh to study chemical engineering.

• Ryan Johnston & Vaughn Johnston Scholarship Fund, $1,000 – Jesse Vensel of McGuffey, who will attend the Pfeiffer University to major in accounting.

• Scholarship Fund for the Arts, $250 – Taylor Buchta of Chartiers-Houston, who will attend Penn State University to study art.

• Sprowls College & Post-Graduate Scholarship Fund, $1,000 – Rebekah Welesko, who will attend Carnegie Mellon University.

• Washington Community Federal Credit Union Scholarship, $1,500 – Joshua Bowman of Peters Township, who will attend Penn State University to major in nuclear and mechanical engineering; Pauline Clarchick of Avella, who will attend Marietta College to study petroleum engineering; and Briann Moye of Washington, who will attend Allegheny College to study political science.

• Washington County Visiting Nurses’ Association Scholarship Fund, $1,500 each – Nursing students Brittnae Boni and Samantha Maize, who both attend Waynesburg University.
