Local teacher contributes to book
Brian Herrig, a technology education teacher at Canonsburg Middle School, wrote one of the chapters in the recently released “Cases on Digital Game-Based Learning: Methods, Models, and Strategies.”
The book was published by IGI Global, an international publishing company specializing in high-quality research publications in computer science and information technology management.
Herrig is in his ninth year of teaching seventh and eighth grades at the middle school.
“A lot of research supports the use of digital gaming in the classroom,” Herrig said. “We began teaching a digital gaming component in the 2008-2009 school year, and it has significantly grown and developed to the point described in this new chapter.
“Our students at 12 and 13 are learning logic and sequence concepts, which transfer to other areas of programming, not just gaming.”
“Cases on Digital Game-Based Learning” analyzes the implementation of digital games applications for learning as well as addressing the challenges and pitfalls experienced.
