Peters Township Public Library will kick off National Library Week by hosting award-winning performer and educator Paula Purnell of Greensburg at 2 p.m. April 14.

Purnell will demonstrate a host of musical instruments and share songs from Pennsylvania’s past in “Homemade Music in Pennsylvania.” The program is for the entire family, and participants are asked to bring a sturdy plastic water/soda bottle to create an instrument. A reception will follow the program.

Purnell is co-founder of Sense of Place Learning, an affiliate partner of the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. She also teaches education courses at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Purnell has released six albums of original music, including two Parents Choice award-winning children’s albums.

Her band, the NewLanders, performs songs by and about the people of Western Pennsylvania. Additional information can be found at www.senseofplacelearning.org and www.newlanders.com.

Registration is required by emailing programs@ptlibrary.org, visiting the library circulation desk or calling 724-941-9430.
