Current GED test to be replaced
The current version of the GED test, known as the 2002 Series, will expire at the end of 2013 and be replaced by the 2014 Series on Jan. 2.
Those who have not passed all five parts of the 2002 Series have until the end of 2013 to complete the requirements. Otherwise, they will need to start over again in 2014 with the new GED test.
“Support is available through our agency,” said Darlene J. Bigler, chief executive officer of Community Action Southwest. “Our teachers can help you to prepare to take or retake all or parts of the exam.”
Community Action Southwest offers a full schedule of classes in Greene and Washington counties. Classes are taught every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Greene, Mon Valley and Washington PA CareerLink sites. Classes also are offered in Carmichaels, Burgettstown and Washington until 7 p.m. Tuesdays, and in Waynesburg and Washington until 7 p.m. Thursdays.
Pennsylvania certified instructors work with students to determine their weekly class schedule. Volunteer tutors also are available to meet with students in local libraries or other neutral locations throughout both counties. Students enrolled in the program also partnered with a trained case manager who will help them find employment and/or enroll in a trade school or college.
