VFW sponsoring scholarship contests
Veterans of Foreign Wars and its ladies auxiliary are sponsoring two scholarships.
One is for sixth- through eighth-graders. The theme is “What Patriotism Means to Me.” Students must write an essay of 300 to 400 words. The contest is open to all schools. The winner receivs $50 and the opportunity to win state and national awards.
The other is for ninth- through 12th-graders. It is a writing contest on a CD or cassette tape. The topic is “Why I’m Optimistic About Our Nation’s Future.” The prize is $150 and the opportunity to win state and national awards.
Deadline to submit all entries is Nov. 1.
