Cal U. introduces military project

2 min read

The Office of Veterans Affairs at California University of Pennsylvania is on a mission to decorate the campus with banners honoring past and current service members who have ties to Cal U.

Each banner will honor a current student, alumnus or university employee who is either a military veteran or serving with the active-duty military, Reserve or National Guard. Family members with connections to Cal U. and recipients of the university’s President’s Patriotic Service Medallion also are eligible.

With the financial support of sponsors and the community, the Veterans Affairs Office intends to hang the banners on campus in time for Veterans Day. The banners will remain on display through the end of November this year, then will be cleaned and stored for use in subsequent years. Each banner will include a photo of the honoree, along with his or her hometown, branch of military service, era of service and other information.

Cost of each banner is $70. Those submitting the name of a veteran/service member can pay the full price or enlist a sponsor to help defray the cost. A 50/50 match is suggested. The sponsor’s name will appear on the banner. The Office of Veterans Affairs is seeking local businesses and organizations to serve as sponsors for the banner project. Deadline for submissions is Oct. 2.

More information is available online at www.calu.edu. Banners may not be ordered as a surprise.

Businesses and organizations interested in sponsoring a banner should contact the Office of Veterans Affairs at veterans@calu.edu or 724-938-4076.
