Physician referral access line is 412-DOCTORS (362-8677) and is available between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Medivan service, operated by Canonsburg Ambulance, is available to residents who need transportation to Canonsburg General Hospital for testing or surgery. The service cannot accommodate patients in wheelchairs. Rides must be scheduled at least one day in advance. To schedule, call 724-745-6911.
Blood pressure screenings are provided from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Canonsburg Community Health Care Center, 36 E. Pike St. Call 724-873-5835.

Health-care professionals from the hospital and Southwestern Pennsylvania Human Services Inc. are available to make free presentations to service clubs, church groups, senior citizens organizations and others who request programs. Childbirth preparation classes will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays through Sept. 24. Topics include the role of a labor coach, signs of labor, pain medication options, vaginal and caesarean deliveries and comfort measures. To register, call 724-258-BABY, ext. 9.
Cholesterol screening will be held from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday. In observance of National Cholesterol Education month, the staff will teach participants how to follow a heart-healthy lifestyle and reduce their risk of heart disease and stroke. Cost of the cholesterol test is $10. Add a blood sugar test for an additional $2. A 12-hour fast is required. Talk with a Doc: Tai Chi will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Bethel Park Community Center, 5151 Park Ave. Dr. Jose Ramirez-Del Toro, a physical and sports medicine specialist with the Orthopedic Group, and Dr. Paul Lam, founder and director of the internationally renowned Tai Chi for Health Institute, will present the program. Multiphasic Blood Analysis will be held from 7 to 10 a.m. Sept. 27 in the Education Conference Center at Monongahela Valley Hospital. The 36-function screening is $25. Participants are asked to provide the full name and complete address of the physician to whom their test results will be sent. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 27 in the circular driveway at the Education Conference Center at Monongahela Valley Hospital. MVH and the Carroll Township Police Department serve as one local host for the event, which provides a convenient and safe way for residents to remove unused drugs from their medicine cabinets. Remove any personal information from the bottles or packages of expired, unwanted or unused controlled, noncontrolled or over-the-counter medications. Liquid products and creams in their containers are acceptable. Sharps and syringes will not be accepted. Donors remain anonymous. For more information, call 724-258-1333.

Diabetes Education Center offers group classes and one-on-one appointments, addressing a comprehensive range of topics. Diabetes management plans are developed with patients and their physicians, taking into account each individual’s lifestyle and needs. Insulin pump training is provided. Teen Outreach programs at Washington Hospital include:
• Echo – a home-based early intervention program for children in fourth through eighth grades.
• Parents and Daughters – for girls 9 to 12 years old.
• Parents and Sons – for boys 10 to 14 years old.
• Pregnant and Parenting Teens – supportive and educational services for teens.
• Teen Father Program – for fathers up to 22 years old.
