Swearingen – 100 years
John R. Swearingen of Brownsville will celebrate his 100th birthday.
Mr. Swearingen was born February 19, 1914.
He and his wife, Virginia, who is deceased, had three children, Sandi Swearingen, Bob (Anne) Swearingen and the late Donald Swearingen, who died one month after he was born. He also has three grandchildren, Rachel, Nathan and Garrett Swearingen.
Mr. Swearingen taught industrial arts in the Brownsville School District from 1938 until 1955, and served three years in the U.S. Navy during that time.
He also was a professor in the Industrial Arts Department at California State College, now California University of Pennsylvania, from 1955 to 1975. In 1972, he served as president of the Industrial Arts Association of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Swearingen is an active member of First Christian Church in Brownsville and enjoys visiting with family and friends and spending time on the computer.
