Peer educators make presentations

1 min read

Four local high school students involved with Washington Health System Teen Outreach recently participated in a professional presentation at the Pennsylvania Student Assistance Program conference at Penn State University.

Student peer educators Serena Green, a junior at Trinity High School, sophomore Sasha Edwards and senior India March, both of Washington, and senior Tyler Bryzinski of Fort Cherry presented two sessions with Mary Jo and Rich Podgurski called “I’m the Least Drunk: Peer Leadership as Behavioral Change in Drug/Alcohol Prevention.” The presentation demonstrated peer-created curricula used to teach teens throughout Washington County during the last five years.

As part of the Real Talk performers, the peer educators also presented an original educational drama, “Invisible.” Created by eighth-graders in the Washington School District, “Invisible” highlights the isolation many young people feel as they mature.
