Monongahela plans sister city event

In August, Monongahela will celebrate its kinship with 57 visitors from Ono San Pietro, Italy, the “sister city” it adopted on Sept. 12, 2012. The celebration will be held Aug. 22-24, beginning with a welcome and the ceremonial exchange of keys to the cities at 3 p.m. Aug. 22 at Chess Park. A social will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Ripepi Winery.

On Aug. 23, a tour of the Monongahela Historical Museum will begin at 2 p.m., with dinner at 5:30 p.m. at the Monongahela fire hall.

On Aug. 24, a tour of Monongahela Cemetery will begin at 9 a.m., with a Roman Catholic Mass at 1 p.m. celebrated in Italian by Father Pierangelo Pederfoli of Ono San Pietro at St. Damien Park.

Tickets are available at Grilli’s Studio in New Eagle. Call 724-258-8419. Ticket availability will be limited for the Ripepi social and dinner at the Monongahela fire hall.
