College news – June 8
Andrea G. Bailey of Waynesburg graduated cum laude from the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at Alfred University. Bailey, who studied biology, is the daughter of Robert and Cindy Bailey of Waynesburg and is a graduate of Waynesburg Central High School.
Ariel Lynn Bailey, daughter of Gerry and Mitzi Bailey of Prosperity, graduated from the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., with the degree of doctor of medicine. She will complete her residency in radiology at West Virginia University. Bailey also is graduate of Jefferson-Morgan High School and Colgate University.
Kelly M. Blackhurst, a 2010 graduate of Trinity High School, was named to the dean’s list for the fifth consecutive semester at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, where she majors in early childhood education. She’s had a perfect 4.0 grade-point average the last two semesters. She is president of the Blue and Gold Society, secretary/treasurer of Gamma Phi Chapter of Pi Lambda Theta International Honor Society for Education, member of the education club, Delta Epsilon Iota academic honor society and Pennsylvania Council for the Social Studies. Her parents are Carla Blackhurst of Washington and the late Kenny Blackhurst. Blackhurst is employed by Jimmy Johns.
Scott Byrd was named to the dean’s list for the sixth consecutive semester at Waynesburg University, where he majors in accounting. His parents are Scott and Christy Byrd of Houston. He is a 2011 graduate of Chartiers-Houston High School.
Michael Campbell graduated with honors from Waynesburg University, where he studied nursing. He works in the Intermediate Care Unit at St. Clair Hospital. He is a 2002 graduate of Trinity High School. His parents are Bill and Carolyn Campbell of Washington.
Maci Caster, daughter of William Caster III and Shellie Caster of Washington, was named to the dean’s list at Bethany College, where she majors in elementary education and minors in specal education and art. She is a member of Kappa Delta Phi International Honor Society for Education and will be treasurer for in 2014-15. She’s also a member of Student National Education Association and will handle public relations and advertising for the next school year. She is a 2011 graduate of Trinity High School.
Alyssa Brooke Crile, an early childhood education major from Washington, was named one of five valedictorians of her class during Waynesburg University’s commencement May 18. She is the daughter of Scott Crile of Waynesburg and Lisa Hegedus and stepfather Gary Hegedus of Washington. Crile was a member and treasurer of Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society in education. She also tutored at Kids’ Cafe in West Waynesburg and was a member of DRUS Womens’ Honorary Society. Crile is substituting in Allegheny, Greene and Washington counties.
Gianna Dino, a 2008 graduate of Canon-McMillan High School, has graduated from California University of Pennsylvania, where she received a master of education degree, specializing in ESL. She is the daughter of Andrew and Dino of Canonsburg. Dino is substitute teaching and employed by Sunshine Kids Daycare.
Madeleine Fincham, daughter of Richard and Michelle Fincham of Washington, graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo with a master of urban planning degree, specializing in urban design. She also holds a bachelor of arts degree in environmental design with a minor in architecture. She led several planning projects at SUNY, including a proposal to create a food hub to combat industrial vacancy and enhance local neighborhoods in the city of Niagara Falls, and a medium-scale revitalization plan. Her team also developed a residential infill development proposal that maintains the historic context of Buffalo’s neighborhoods; the proposal was selected for implementation and won the American Planning Association (APA) New York Upstate Chapter’s 2014 Outstanding Student Project Award. She also participated in the 12th annual ULI Gerald D. Hines Urban Design Competition. Fincham is a graduate of McGuffey High School.
Jordan Ribel graduated magna cum laude from California Universtity of Pennsylvania, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in finance and marketing. He is a 2010 graduate of Washington High School. His parents are Jay Ribel of Canonsburg and Carolyn Boni of Avella.
Ciara Rotondo, a 2010 graduate of Canon-McMillan High School, graduated from Penn State University, where she was a childhood and early adolescent education major. She is certified to teach pre-kindergarten through fourth grade. She was named to the dean’s for all eight semesters, was a member of Kappa Delta Pi and Alpha Lambda Delta honor societies, Pennsylvania State Education Association, Pennsylvania IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON) Family Relations Captain and 2012 THON dancer and member of the Ivyside Dance Ensemble. Her parents are Judy Rotondo of Canonsburg and Tom Rotondo of Elizabethtown. Her stepmother is Kelly Rotondo of Elizabethtown.
