CAS offers several housing programs
Community Action Southwest’s Home Ownership Center offers free individual appointments with HUD-certified housing counselors trained to assist area residents with the home-buying or foreclosure prevention process.
Counselors help home buyers determine what they can afford, review their credit scores, determine how credit scores can be improved when needed, discuss options for down-payment assistance and explore pre-qualification for suitable loan programs.
Counselors help existing homeowners refinance when needed and enroll them in programs designed to prevent foreclosures through the national Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling Initiative.
Other support services at CAS also are made available, including its weekly series of financial literacy classes and its matched-savings account program. Through the savings account program, participants receive $2 for every $1 they save up to a $4,000 match.
