Rotary Club honors students

The Rotary Club of Washington recently awarded seven academic awards and three community service awards to area students at its Student Awards Luncheon. All students received a $1,000 scholarship as part of the recognition. Winners were:

Darrell Briggs, who received the Clyde J. Tracanna/Washington Rotary Club Educational & Vocational Fund Scholarship administered by the Washington County Community Foundation. A graduate of McGuffey High School, Briggs has volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, youth basketball camp counselor and supporter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Pennies for Patients campaign. He plans to major in petroleum geology at Muskingum University. His parents are Darrell and Jill Briggs.

Shannon Crumrine, who received the Clyde J. Tracanna/Washington Rotary Club Educational & Vocational Fund Scholarship administered by the Washington County Community Foundation. A graduate of Washington High School, Crumrine has been an active community volunteer with various programs, including Teen Outreach, Junior Achievement and the City Mission’s Sweet Sunday event. She plans to attend West Virginia University to study speech pathology. Her parents are Roy and Sandra Crumrine.

Ethan East, who received the Rotary Academic Achievement Scholarship from Washington High School. He plans to attend Brown University for pre-medical studies. His parents are Robert and Angeline East.

Alexa Kostyak, who received the Clyde J. Tracanna/Washington Rotary Club Educational & Vocational Fund Scholarship administered by the Washington County Community Foundation. A graduate of Trinity High School, Kostyak has volunteered for the Washington Hospital, Salud Para Niños and the Make-a-Wish Foundation. She plans to major in chemistry at Washington & Jefferson College. Her parents are Joshua and Denise Kostyak.

Abigail Maloy, who received the Dr. Douglas Masciola/Rotary Academic Achievement Scholarship from Trinity High School. She plans to study health sciences (pre-med) at the University of Pittsburgh. Her parents are Timothy and Laura Maloy.

Amy Russell, who received the Rotary Academic Achievement Scholarship from McGuffey High School. Russell plans to study dance at Western Michigan University. Her parents are Ron and Donna Russell.

Cheyenne Shankle, who received the Rotary Academic Achievement Scholarship from Fort Cherry High School. She plans to attend Carnegie Mellon University to study chemical engineering. Her parents are Ford and Kelly Shankle.

Maggie Stiffler, who received the Rotary Academic Achievement Scholarship from Burgettstown High School. She plans to study mathematics at the University of Pittsburgh. Her parents are Dave and Lisa Stiffler.

Maria Villotti, who received the Rotary Academic Achievement Scholarship from Avella High School. She plans to major in history at Dickinson College. Her parents are Lew and Beth Villotti.

Chloe Williams, who received the Dr. David K. Scarborough/Rotary Academic Achievement Scholarship. A graduate of Washington & Jefferson College, she plans to attend the West Virginia University School of Medicine. Her parents are Joseph and Christina Williams.
