PT library to host Civil War program

The role of poetry during the Civil War will be discussed at 7 p.m. June 19 at Peters Township Public Library as part of its Civil War 150 programming.

Dr. Faith Barrett, associate professor of English at Duquesne University, will discuss “American Poetry and the Civil War.” She co-edited “Words for the Hour: A New Anthology of American Civil War Poetry” (U Mass, 2005), and is the author of “To Fight Aloud is Very Brave: American Poetry and the Civil War” (U Mass, 2012). She has published articles on the poetry of Emily Dickinson, Walt Whitman, Herman Melville and Abraham Lincoln.
