McMurray Legion to induct USC vet
Neil H. Brown of Upper St. Clair will be inducted into the Wall of Valor for his gallantry in action in Vietnam and his award of the Silver Star at 1 p.m. June 8 at VFW Memorial Park Post 764, 460 Valleybrook Road, McMurray.
Brown was a first lieutenant, serving as a platoon leader with the 101st Airborne Division during airmobile assault operations in the A Shau Valley in August 1969.
In 1995, the Wall of Valor was dedicated as a part of military history to honor veterans of VFW Post 764, living and dead, for valor “above and beyond the call of duty” while in action against enemy forces. The plaques on the wall outline the deeds, medals and heroic stories of the men who placed freedom above their own lives.
The Wall of Valor contains nearly three dozen plaques from three wars: World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. Those eligible to be honored are recipients of the Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, Navy Cross, Air Force Cross, Silver Star and Distinguished Flying Cross.
