ICU, MVH nurses receive award

1 min read

Monongahela Valley Hospital’s entire Intensive Care Unit nursing team, as well as registered nurses Cheryl Panza and Tricia Golden, recently were awarded the Clinical Improvement Through Evidence Award for Measurable Outcomes.

The award recognizes nurses for excellence in the use of clinical decision support solutions to drive improvements in patient care. The award was presented by Zynx Health, a leader in experience- and evidence-based content, technology and services that drive improvements at the point of care for patients.

To achieve a goal of zero central line-associated bloodstream infections in ICU, the team researched best practices and created evidence-based interventions and protocols to care for patients. For example, nurses now bathe patients using chlorhexidine-based disinfectants on a daily basis and consolidate lab draws.

As a result, MVH not only achieved the goal of zero central-line associated bloodstream infections in the ICU, but also has sustained this outcome for more than two years.
