Magical light display turns Kennywood into a winter wonderland

Kennywood is known as a fun amusement park with attractions and rides for all. Despite being a summer park, Kennywood, in West Mifflin, opens up on select nights in November and December.

The Kennywood 2015 Holiday Lights opens a few attractions for winter enjoyment, all while lighting up the park with holiday cheer. Rides such as the Kangaroo, Paratrooper and Ghostwood Estate are just as fun as any other time, only now decorated with red and green lights and other holiday ornaments. However, unlike during the summer, the rides are not the main attraction. The best part of the night is simply walking through the park. While it may seem boring at first, Kennywood during the winter holidays is an incredible sight.

Almost every tree is wrapped with colorful lights and multiple festive displays are scattered throughout the park. The centerpiece is a 90-foot Christmas tree lit with an array of colors. A beautiful sight on its own, early visitors even get to watch a special lighting ceremony.

Around the central lagoon is another large Christmas tree – an apparition made of lights. When the sun goes down, this area is transformed into a light show, with every lit-up tree and bush turning on and off and changing colors in sync with classic Christmas songs.

Kennywood’s 2015 Holiday Lights is a great experience. Though not all the attractions are open, Kennywood manages to transform itself into a winter wonderland.
