Cake contest focuses on Appalachian Trail
The Appalachian Trail Conservancy is kicking off its 90th anniversary celebration with an Appalachian Trail-themed cake baking contest.
Cakes should relate to the Appalachian Trail in some capacity. For example, participants can incorporate a scene on the trail that inspires them, or include elements commonly found on the trail, such as wildlife.
To submit a cake online, upload a photo of the cake to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #ATC90th. To enter in person, bring cakes to the ATC’s Visitor Center, 799 Washington St., Harpers Ferry, W.Va., between 9 and 10 a.m. March 7. Cakes brought to the center will be evaluated by a panel of judges in three categories: Best Tasting, Most Creative and People’s Choice.
Anyone is invited to taste the cakes beginning at 2:30 p.m. Contest winners will be announced at 3:30 p.m., and prizes will be awarded
To enter a cake in the contest at the ATC’s Visitor Center, email Anne Baker at abaker@appalachiantrail.org by March 5 with first and last name, type of cake and cake dimensions, as well as any other relevant information, such as possible allergens. Participants will receive information about cake drop-off times.
