Grazing conference planned in Morgantown

The 2015 Appalachian Grazing Conference, “The Dollars and $ense of Grazing,” will be held March 13 and 14 at the Waterfront Place Hotel and Conference Center in Morgantown, W.Va.

The conference will focuse on economics, business strategies and how to sustain productivity for the long haul.

Keynote speakers will be Jim Gerrish and Bob Hendershot.

Gerrish is an independent grazing lands consultant who provides service to farmers and ranchers on both private and public lands thoughout the United States and internationally. His research and outreach efforts have been recognized with awards from the American Forage and Grassland Council, Missouri Forage and Grassland Council, National Center for Appropriate Technology, USDA-NRCS, the Soil and Water Conservation Society, Progressive Farmer and American Agricultural Editors Association.

Hendershot started Green Pasture Services, a pasture consulting service, after retiring from the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service as the state grassland conservationist and state Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative coordinator for Ohio. He has received numerous awards and recognition for his work with grasses and other forages. Hendershot was one of the founding members of the Ohio Forage and Grassland Council, where he still serves as a director.

Registration is $100 if paid by March 5 and includes all activities, meals and breaks. Room reservations must be made directly with the Waterfront Place Hotel by calling 866-782-9974. A block of rooms is on hold Thursday. When making room reservations, be sure to mention the 2015 Appalachian Grazing Conference.
