Food partnership recruiting organizations

1 min read

Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Food Security Partnership will hold an informational session to recruit more community organizations in Washington County to participate in the federally funded Summer Food Service Program.

The session will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Family Center at Fourth Presbyterian Church, 1000 Jefferson Ave., Washington. A representative from the state Department of Education will be available to answer questions.

In Washington County, there are possibly more than 11,000 children who could benefit from free lunches during the summer, and only 622 children per day, or 5 percent, are being reached. They are primarily children who would receive free and reduced lunches through their schools during the year.

Any organizations interested in attending the session are asked to contact Kelsey Gross at kgross@pittsburghfoodbank.org or 412-460-3663, ext. 255.
