The Washington County Community Foundation has completed its post-secondary scholarship cycle for 2015, awarding 62 scholarships totaling a record-breaking $106,500. At least one graduate from every Washington County school district received an award.

Awards were presented as follows:

• Alice Boone Main Memorial Fund, $500 – Branigan McGowan , a graduate of McGuffey High School who plans to attend West Liberty University to study biology.

• Arthur V. Ciervo Scholarship Fund, $500 – Brittany Piper, a graduate of Bethlehem-Center High School who plans to study mathematics education at California University of Pennsylvania.

• Barry Clark Barto Scholarship Fund, $500 – Kylee McConnell, a graduate of Burgettstown High School who plans to study cosmetology at Bella Capelli’s Academy.

• Black Family Scholarship Fund, $1,000 each – Brianne Morgan, a graduate of Avella High School, and William Van Norman, a graduate of West Greene High School. Morgan plans to attend California University of Pennsylvania/Washington Health System School of Nursing, and Van Norman plays to study athletic training at Waynesburg University.

• Buckholt Science Scholarship Fund, $500 – Georgia Sim, a graduate of McGuffey High School who plans to attend West Virginia Wesleyan College to study nursing.

• Burgettstown Junior-Senior High School Student Council Leadership Scholarship Fund, $500 – Caley Ritts, who plans to attend Malone University to study biology.

• Burgettstown Lions Club Scholarship Fund – Two Burgettstown seniors received scholarships. Robert Derosky received a $250 award to study chemical engineering at Penn State University, and Caley Ritts received a $250 award and the $500 Lions Memorial Award to study biology at Malone University.

• AS/Dr. Kim Stacher Scholarship Fund, $1,000 – Aaron Previsky, a graduate of California Area High School who plans to attend Seton Hill University to study elementary education with special education.

• Chapman Family Scholarship Fund, $2,000 each – Austin Butka, a graduate of Canon-McMillan High School who plans to study welding technology at Penn Commercial; Tiffany Cook, a graduate of Burgettstown High School who plans to study medical assistant management at Bradford School; Kaylin Ferguson, a graduate of Burgettstown High School, who plans to study dental hygiene at West Liberty University; Luke Makrinos, a graduate of Peters Township High School who is seeking certification as a heavy equipment technician and operator at Pennsylvania College of Technology; Kylee McConnell, a graduate of Burgettstown High School who plans to study cosmetology at Bella Capelli’s Academy; Makenzie Sheppard, a graduate of Trinity High School who plans to attend West Penn Hospital School of Nursing; and Glory Warnock of the Burgettstown area and a graduate of the Erie County Home School Association, who is studying physical therapy at California University of Pennsylvania.

Receiving a $3,000 award was Madison Walker, a graduate of Ringgold High School who plans to attend the Culinary Institute of America to study baking and pastry arts.

Receiving $4,000 awards were Charles Crowe of Greene County and a graduate of the Pennsylvania Homeschoolers Home Education Program, who plans to attend Liberty University to study business management and finance; John-Glen Davis, a graduate of Waynesburg Central High School, who plans to attend Waynesburg University; Abigail Shipley, a graduate of Mapletown High School, who plans to attend Waynesburg University to study biology; and Haleigh Simpson, who resides in the Jefferson-Morgan School District and is a graduate of PA Cyber Charter School. She plans to study nursing at West Virginia University.

• Charles Pappas Sr. Scholarship Fund, $1,500 – Samuel Hockenberry, a graduate of Burgettstown High School who plans to attend Westminster College to study computer science and mathematics.

• Christman Family Scholarship Fund, $4,000 – Aliyah Moye, a graduate of Washington High School who plans to study sports medicine at Kent State University. This is the first award from the fund.

• Clyde J. Tracanna/Washington Rotary Club Educational and Vocational Fund, $1,000 each – Adam Hasson, a graduate of Trinity High School who plans to attend Penn State Erie, the Behrend College to study mechanical engineering; Emeline Ferguson, a graduate of McGuffey High School who plans to study mathematics at Grove City College; and Jenna Shallcross, a graduate of Washington High School who plans to attend Grove City College to study mathematics and secondary education.

• D. Jack & Geraldine L. Gaido Memorial Scholarship Fund, $4,000 – Austin Plunkett, a graduate of Trinity High who is studying business at the University of North Carolina.

• Dave Pew Memorial Scholarship Fund, $500 – Emma Planitzer, a graduate of Peters Township High School who plans to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania to study music education.

• David O. and Sara F. Johnson Family Education Fund, $1,000 – Kyla Ranko, a graduate of McGuffey High School who plans to study biology at Robert Morris University.

• Dr. Paul Pipik Fund for Study in the Health Sciences, $850 – Ryan Beyer, a graduate of Bethlehem-Center High School who plans to attend California University of Pennsylvania for pre-chiropractic studies.

• Elizabeth Plumer Memorial Scholarship, $1,000 – Madison Aloia, a graduate of Trinity High School who plans to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania to study education.

• Heart of Giving Scholarships – Jessica Bular, a graduate of Bentworth High School received a $1,000 award sponsored by First Commonwealth Bank. She plans to attend Seton Hill University to study pharmacy. Zoe Nicastro of Trinity High School received a $1,000 Chavla Family Scholarship. She plans to attend Glenville State College to study forensic science.

• Hunter Lafe McAdoo Scholarship Fund, $1,000 – Brooke Dorsey, a graduate of McGuffey High School who plans to attend West Liberty University to study physical therapy. This is the first award from the fund.

• John & Sophie Choratch Scholarship Fund, $5,000 – Mikayla DeMarino, a graduate of Trinity High School who plans to study nursing at Indiana University of Pennsylvania; Kristen Ellis, a graduate of Canon-McMillan High School who plans to study special education at La Roche College; Chrysta Rands, a graduate of Ringgold High School who plans to study nursing at Robert Morris University; Chad Waggoner, a graduate of Charleroi Area High School who plans to study business management at Bethany College; and Rachel Wilkinson, a graduate of California Area High School who plans to study exercise science and physical therapy at Slippery Rock University.

• Joseph P. Femiani Memorial Scholarship, $1,000 – James Gummersbach, a graduate of Peters Township High School who plans to attend the University of Virginia to study chemical engineering.

• Kerns Family Scholarship Fund, $1,000 – Paige Smith, a graduate of McGuffey High School who plans to attend West Virginia University to study agriculture education and extension.

• Kirk C. Moninger Fund, $400 – Megan Simpson, a graduate of Trinity High School who plans to attend Westminster College to study public relations.

• Kiwanis Club of Washington Scholarship Fund, $500 – Amber Nimal, a graduate of Fort Cherry High School who plans to attend the University of Mount Union to study business management.

• Linda LeFever Scholarship Fund, $1,000 – Julie Williams, a student of the Heinz School of Carnegie Mellon University.

• Margaret Pitek Ciervo Scholarship Fund , $500 – Alexandra Dziak, a graduate of Bethlehem-Center High School who plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh to study engineering.

• Megan J. Phillis Scholarship Fund for Academic Excellence, $500 – Robert Derosky, a graduate of Burgettstown High School who plans to attend Penn State University to study chemical engineering.

• Olivia Scott Scholarship Fund, $1,000 each – Marissa Durbin, a graduate of McGuffey High School, and Samantha Berry, a graduate of Peters Township High School. Durbin plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh to study occupational therapy; Berry plans to attend Penn State University to study biomedical engineering.

• Rebecca Sarah Rogers Scholarship Fund, $1,000 – Cassidy Hiles, a graduate of Washington High School who plans to attend Jacksonville University to study Spanish education.

• Ringgold Alumni Scholarship Fund, $250 – Alex Nageli, who plans to study engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute.

• Ronald T. Miller II Scholarship Fund, $1,000 – Samantha Chaudhari, a graduate of Peters Township High School who plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh to study engineering.

• Ryan Johnston & Vaughn Johnston Scholarship Fund, $1,000 – David North, a graduate of McGuffey High School who plans to attend the University of Chicago to study astrophysics and history.

• Sam & Bev Minor Fund, $1,000 – Michael Christopher, a graduate of California Area High School who plans to attend Penn State Fayette to study biology (pre-med). This is the first award from the fund.

• Scholarship Fund for the Arts, $500 – Thomas Matyas, a graduate of Chartiers-Houston High School who plans to attend California University of Pennsylvania to study graphic design.

• Sprowls College & Post-Graduate Scholarship Fund, $1,000 – Matthew McDonald, a graduate of Fort Cherry High School who plans to attend Westminster College to study public relations.

• Washington Community Federal Credit Union Scholarship, $1,500 each – Garret Guthrie, a graduate of Trinity High School plans to attend Waynesburg University to study mathematics; Lauren Hess, a graduate of Canon-McMillan High School who plans to attend Lebanon Valley College to study physical therapy; and Nicholas Larimer, a graduate of Peters Township High School who plans to attend Penn State University to study engineering.

• Washington County Visiting Nurses’ Association Scholarship Fund, $3,000 each – Mariah Ketter, who attends Waynesburg University, and Haley Schmidt, who attends Edinboro University.
