Slovak Society to mark 125th anniversary
The National Slovak Society of the USA will celebrate its 125th anniversary as a fraternal benefit society at a Gala Banquet Saturday at the Hilton Garden Inn at Southpointe.
The society was founded Feb. 16, 1890, at a meeting in Walther Hall on the North Side of Pittsburgh. The National Slovak Society is the oldest Slovak fraternal benefit society in the United States.
The society continues to provide financial security to its members through life insurance and annuities and fraternal benefits, including college scholarships. In addition, the society annually donates to charitable organizations in communities in which members live.
Located in McMurray, the home office also contains the NSS Heritage Museum, which houses historical information, cultural displays and a library for research.
