Peters Township library hosts history programs

2 min read

Peters Township Public Library will offer a special program series for students and teachers, “Bringing American History to Life,” in April and May.

The library was chosen through a competitive application process to receive a grant from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History’s new Public Library Affiliate Program, which is designed to help public libraries host programs for student-age audiences and teachers interested in exploring American history.

In the first program, Peters Township Middle School faculty members Matthew Cheran and Carla McCue will present “Propagating Propaganda” in World War II from 7 to 8:30 p.m. April 23. Cheran and McCue will illustrate how propaganda was used both at home and abroad by the allied and axis powers. By showing examples of propaganda posters from both sides of the war, they will reveal how nearly identical methods were used to get out very different messages.

Students who are in at least sixth grade and teachers from area schools are invited. To register, email programs@ptlibrary.org or call 724-941-9430.

The second program will be “The American Home Front in World War II,” which will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. May 14. Speaker will be Dr. Todd DePastino. More details about this program will be available in mid-April.
