Food bank kicks off cereal drive
The Greater Washington County Food Bank is holding its annual Summer Cereal Drive through June 30.
According to Connie Burd, executive director of the food bank, during the summer, “many children of all ages are not able to take advantage of school breakfast and lunch programs to get through the day with two healthy meals and a full stomach.”
The food bank helps as many as 14,000 individuals annually who don’t know when or where their next meal will be. Of that number, 31 percent are 18 years old and younger.
To donate, visit www.gwcfb.org. For every dollar that is given, GWCFB can purchase $5 worth of food. Cereal donations also can be dropped off at the food bank weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
