CAS to hold WIC Farmers Market check distribution
Community Action Southwest will distribute checks for the Women, Infants and Children Farmers Market Nutrition Program from June 5.
Distribution is only for WIC-eligible women and their children who are older than 2 years old, and will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the WIC Clinic, 150 W. Beau St., Suite 202, Washington, and the WIC Clinic, 58 E. Greene St., Waynesburg.
Those who normally receive services at satellite WIC clinics can pick up their farmers market checks at the centralized locations. No appointments are necessary, but participants are asked to bring their voucher holder and ID card. Those who are unable to come will receive their farmers market vouchers at their regular WIC appointments in June, July, August or September.
The purpose of the nutrition program is to provide nutritionally at-risk women and children with vouchers for fruits and vegetables from farmers markets and increase awareness and use of these markets. Eligible women and children will receive four $5 checks for the season.
