Spring Book Sale will be held Monday through June 13 at the library’s gazebo during regular business hours.

Author Talk with Candice Buchanan and Glenn Toothman will be held at 6 p .m. June 10. They will discuss their recently published book, “Waynesburg,” a photographic journey that documents the evolution of High Street and revisits Downey House and its tragic fire, the men of Company K, the Waynesburg Brewery, the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, Hookstown Cemetery, Courthouse Square and the Waynesburg College campus. , among other sites. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.

The Family Literacy and Children’s Departments will present a series for children and their families on personal and home safety as follows:

• “Keep Me Safe from Fire” – 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Center Township Fire Department will teach families about fire safety and will bring Sparky. The Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department also will bring a fire engine.

• “Keep Me Safe from Danger” – 10 a.m. to noon June 13.

• “Keep Me Safe and Protected” – 10 a.m. to noon June 20.

Summer Reading Kick-off Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 27. Call the library to register elementary-aged children for the summer reading clubs in the Children’s Department. The theme is “Every Hero Has a Story.” In conjunction with the reading clubs, the Family Literacy Department is enrolling children in its program to keep math and science skills sharp during the summer. Summer reading programs will be held weekly, July 6 through Aug. 14. Free lunches will be provided by the Greater Pittsburgh Area Food Bank.

Heinz History Center field trip will be held July 20. A bus will leave the library at 9 a.m. and return around 5 or 5:30 p.m. The trip is ideal for those 8 and older, but younger visitors are welcome to attend with a chaperone. Hiking the Appalachian Trail will be held at 6 p.m. June 25. A local resident who, in 2013, set out to hike the 2,185 miles of the Appalachian Trail, will discuss his journey that began at the southern end of the trail at Springer Mountain and continued through several states to Rutland, Vt. He plans to finish the trail this year.

Of Dice and Men is held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturdays. There are role-playing games for everyone.
