YMCA offering diabetes program in North Strabane

1 min read

The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh will hold a Diabetes Prevention Program from noon to 1 p.m. Thursdays, beginning Oct. 29, at the North Strabane Township Municipal Building, 1929 Route 519, Canonsburg.

The lifestyle intervention program helps people reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by adopting healthy habits to increase physical activity and lose a modest amount of weight.

The 12-month program begins with 19 weekly core sessions, followed by six monthly maintenance sessions. Based on a study by the National Institutes of Health, the program reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58 percent.

To learn more about the program, contact Gretchen North, associate vice president of Healthy Living at the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh, at diabetesprevention@ymcapgh.org or 412-227-3820.
