St. Andrew’s Society celebrates Tartan Day
The St. Andrew’s Society of Pittsburgh will host its annual Tartan Day Celebration from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 2999 Bethel Church Road, Bethel Park.
The family-oriented event will feature Celtic music and performances by bagpipe bands, fiddlers and harpists, as well as Highland and country dancers.
In addition to the entertainment, there will be Scottish food, workshops about Scottish clans and genealogy, vendors and activities for children. Admission and parking are free.
Tartan Day commemorates the Scottish Declaration of Independence, from which the American Declaration of Independence was modeled. It also recognizes achievements of Americans of Scottish descent.
The event benefits the Tartan Day Scholarship Fund, which provides assistance to students of the Scottish arts.
