Men walk to stop gender violence
Westmoreland County’s sixth annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event, the international men’s march to end sexual assault, rape and gender violence, will be held April 16 at St. Clair Park in Greensburg.
Men, with women and children by their side, will walk one mile in women’s high-heeled shoes and speak out against the social norms that perpetuate domestic and sexual violence. Last year, close to 1,200 walkers, including 386 men in heels, participated. The walk suppports the Blackburn Center Against Domestic & Sexual Violence.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the walk at 10.
To register in advance, visit www.blackburncenter.org or call 724-837-9540. Women’s high-heeled shoes will be loaned to male walkers who register in advance. Walk-on registrants are welcome, although shoe availability cannot be guaranteed.
