West Greene Lions Club names outstanding students
West Greene Area Lions Club chose three students for its Outstanding Student awards. They are Cole Hamilton, Hannah Reed and Marissa Rode.
Hamilton, son of Myles and Trudy Hamilton of Graysville, is a four-year letterman in football, a three-year letterman in wrestling and a two-year letterman in baseball. He is a member of the National Honor Society, participated in the WPIAL Student Leadership Conference and was named the 2015 and 2016 varsity football Defensive Player of the Year.
In wrestling, Hamilton received the Fletcher-Bissett Memorial Award and the seventh annual Wylie Cheek Memorial Award. He also received the FFA Greenhand degree, academic achievement award and American Citizenship Award, and was named the Centennial Chevrolet Scholar Fall Athlete of 2016 and the Tri-County South All-Conference varsity football player of 2016.
Hamilton is a member of the Nineveh Volunteer Fire Department, Nineveh United Methodist Church, YoungLife and Peer Mentoring Program. He plans to major in civil engineering in college.
Reed, daughter of Bob and Karen Reed of Hargus Creek, is captain of the varsity volleyball team and was named the 2015 Defensive Player of the Year. She also was named to the WPIAL Section 2A third team her freshman and sophomore years and was a first-team WPIAL Section 2A All-Star selection her senior year.
Reed is a member of the varsity track team, is involved in peer mentoring, school publications, ski club, barnyard and 4-H, and is president of the National Honor Society. She volunteers for blood drives, food service and vacation Bible school, and has received perfect attendance and community service awards from the Challenge Program. She received the American Citizenship Award and ranks first in her class. She plans to major in neuroscience in college.
Rode, daughter of Jeff and Sheila Rode of Jollytown, is captain of the varsity girls basketball team and a member of the varsity girls softball team.
She also is a member of the Peer Mentoring Program and art club, vice president of the National Honor Society and leader of West Greene’s student section.
She is a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and is involved in YoungLife and Girl Scouts. Rode has donated many hours of community service through the National Honor Society and Girl Scouts, and was a little league cheer coach in the fall. She plans to major in sports management in college.
