CFGC awards more than $10,000 in grants
The Community Foundation of Greene County recently awarded grants totaling more than $10,000 through its fall discretionary grant cycle.
Funding for the grants was provided primarily through CFGC’s unrestricted Forever Greene Fund and the Bob Bradford Fund, with additional support from the Fund for Arts & Culture, Harvest Fund and the Consol Energy Excellence in Education Fund. Grants were awarded to support the following projects:
Consol Energy Excellence in Education Fund: Carmichaels Area School District – $500 for a Native American Village project with re-enactors who will construct an early-American native village on the Carmichaels Elementary School grounds and conduct presentations for about 500 students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
Consol Energy Excellence in Education Fund: West Greene School District – $586 for a community-based instruction field trip to provide local, real-world experience for students with intellectual and learning disabilities.
Consol Energy Excellence in Education Fund: West Greene School District – $796.92 for Everyone’s An Artist Mural project for sixth-graders to work with Pittsburgh artist Baron Batch to design and complete a triptych mural for the school. The amount includes support from CFGC’s Fund for Arts & Culture.
Harvest Fund: St. George’s Anglican Church – $860.32 for a community lunch project to purchase supplies and food for weekly lunches prepared by members of the church. The amount includes support from CFGC’s Forever Greene Fund.
Forever Greene/Bob Bradford Fund: PICT Classic Theatre – $1,000 to provide an introduction to theater and acting to 250 Carmichaels Elementary School students first, third and fifth grades.
Forever Greene/Bob Bradford Fund: West Greene School District – $500 for a Pioneer Pantry project to purchase food, toiletries and other supplies for a special pantry for students at West Greene Middle-Senior High School.
Forever Greene/Bob Bradford Fund: Greene County Conservation District – $1,000 to develop Envirothon Educational Resource boxes for science classes and Envirothon teams at each of the five Greene County school districts on a loaned basis.
Forever Greene/Bob Bradford Fund: Bobtown United Methodist Church – $500 to develop a community outreach program for 10- through 16-year-olds, with a variety of community speakers to help instill, promote and encourage core values of responsibility, respect and self-esteem.
Forever Greene/Bob Bradford Fund: Catholic Charities Greene County Outreach – $1,000 for winter heating assistance.
Forever Greene/Bob Bradford Fund: Cornerstone Care Inc. – $780 to support the Smile for Life Oral Health Outreach program.
Forever Greene/Bob Bradford Fund: Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern Pennsylvania – $2,000 to develop a support group for incarcerated women at the Greene County Jail.
Forever Greene/Bob Bradford Fund: Waynesburg University – $500 for the WU Go Girl mentoring event to expand outreach beyond the university to women and girls of Greene County in partnership with Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern Pennsylvania.
The grants are part of more than $275,000 in grants and scholarships awarded during 2016 through various endowed designated funds, donor-advised funds, scholarship funds and the Educational Improvement Tax Credit program grants and scholarships. Since 2002, CFGC has awarded $3 million in grants and scholarships that have helped improve the lives of Greene County residents.
