Washington County Cattlemen’s Association awarded scholarships to seven Washington County students attending institutions of higher learning: Derek Allen of Avella, son of Jeremy Allen and a graduate of Avella High School, is a sophomore at W&J, majoring in accounting; Amanda Cole of Bentleyville, daughter of Kay Cole and Joe Cole and a graduate of Bentleyville High School, is a sophomore art education major at California University of Pennsylvania; Nicholas Gardner of Washington, son of Bill Gardner and a graduate of Brownsville Area High School, is a sophomore chemistry major at Penn State University Greater Allegheny; Kelly Korpus of Washington, daughter of Kurt and Renee Korpus and a graduate of Trinity High School, is a junior recreation therapy major at Slippery Rock University; Brianne Morgan of Avella, daughter of Chuck and Judy Morgan and a graduate of Avella High School, has currently completed one year at the Washington Health System School of Nursing and plans to get her Bachelor of Nursing degree in conjunction with California University; Michaela Rohaley of Washington, daughter of Mike and Brenda Rohaley and a graduate of Canon-McMillan High School, is a sophomore environmental studies major at California University of Pennsylvania; Brittney Ross of Amity, daughter of Jim and Darlene Ross and a graduate of Trinity High School, is a junior business management and marketing major at Penn State University, Fayette Campus.
Money for these scholarships was raised by auctioning off pies entered in the Apple Pie Contest at Washington County Ag Days at the Mall, held at the Crowne Center Mall in March, through donations and from other events the Cattlemen’s Association sponsors.
Lauren Moore was named to the dean’s list at West Virginia University, where she is majoring in petroleum/natural gas engineering. This is her seventh consecutive semester on the dean’s list. She is a member of the Society of Women Engineers. Moore is a 2013 graduate of Washington High School and her parents are James and Paula Moore of Washington.
Jamie Moore was named to the dean’s list at Waynesburg University, where she is majoring in nursing. She has a 4.0 grade-point average. Moore is a 2016 graduate of Washington High School and her parents are James and Paula Moore of Washington.
