Running event benefits Yough River Trail
The Westmoreland Yough Trail Chapter of the Regional Trail Corp. will hold its fifth annual 5k/10k Run and 2-Mile Fun Walk May 14, beginning at the Arthur H. King access area of the Youghiogheny River Trail in West Newton.
Proceeds will be used by trail volunteers to maintain, preserve and enhance the Youghiogheny River Trail section of the Great Allegheny Passage.
The 10k will begin at 9 a.m., and the 5k will begin at 9:05. The 2-Mile Fun Walk will begin at 9.
Medals will be awarded to overall male and female runners in the 5k and 10k, and to the top three male and female age-group participants in those events. Medals also will be given to all run and walk participants 10 and younger. Medals will be awarded to the oldest and youngest participants of the 2-Mile Fun Walk.
Registration is required at https://secure.getmeregistered.com/get_information.php?event_id=123289. Entry forms also are available at the Regional Trail Corp. office in West Newton, from bulletin boards along the trail, supporting businesses in the region and on the WYTC website, www.bikewytc.org.
Cost is $20 for either the 5k or 10k and $15 for the fun walk. Cost for children 10 and younger is $10. On race day, cost is $25 for the 5k and 10k and $20 for the fun walk. Children’s cost remains the same. Participants who register by April 14 will receive a T-shirt.
